CV Compton, one of New Zealand’s leading transport companies, came to us to help solve an issue they were facing. Some of their employees were being turned away from certain construction sites because they didn’t have the required certificate identification cards at hand, such as a Site Safe card. This meant huge delays to deliveries, costing time and money to both CV Compton and their clients. The idea proposed was a system to store all of their employees' information certificates on an app that could be downloaded on their company phones and eliminate the need to carry these I.D cards. All employee identification would be uploaded once their employment started, as well as the app on their company phones. It also allowed CV Compton to track the expiry dates of all these I.D’s which we’re crucial for health and safety, a big requirement here in New Zealand.
Visit WebsiteWe started by looking at ways to design a user-friendly interface that all employees would be comfortable using. Because we had already completed CV Compton’s website previously, we already knew the design scheme to follow for this mobile app design to keep consistency. We created a few different mobile-first design mock-ups and presented them to CV Compton.
We wanted the website application to decrease the amount of steps it would take managers to upload new or existing employee data, as well as making it super accessible to those employees using the app on site to avoid any delays. To do this, we made it into a single page website application, with pop-up models for creating and editing.
Since CV Compton’s employees would primarily view the web app on a mobile device, we took a mobile-first approach to the design. This made sure the website was mobile friendly, had smart filtering options, and used a smooth search function to make it simpler to find employees faster.
After investigating with some user-testing, we found it cut down the task completion time buy 50%.
We wrapped up this project by continuing to do user-testing on both the desktop and mobile version of the website application to ensure everything was working as intended.
We understood that this was just the base structure of the project and completed this website project with scalability in mind. Making it with the potential to grow and add in further features in the future to fit CV Compton’s growth and needs.
We then shipped the website application to our local development servers for CV Compton to test for themselves and to let us know if they wanted any edits made. They were very happy with the project we had created and implemented the system immediately.
