How We Started The Project
We began by looking at the future journey, growth and goals Kiwi Wonder Tours were aiming for. Their launch focused on a singular tour to Ruakuri Cave in Waitomo and Hobbiton in Matamata, but we knew in the future new and exciting tours would be added on. We also looked at their target market overall. With Kiwi Wonder Tours in the tourism industry the website had to suit international users as well as perform in a highly competitive market.
The initial graphic design used 2 column web pages that incorporated a reactive Rezdy booking form that would follow the user as they scrolled. On further investigation with Rezdy we found that their forms wouldn’t suit this function. We made adjustments to the provided design to use more CTA’s while expanding out the pages content, making better use of the full-page space to fit the gap left by the scroll-tracking form.Developing Their Website
Once the web design was accepted by the client we began developing. Because of the need to add in future tours with ease we structured the back-end CMS to facilitate additional tours seamlessly whilst efficiently integrating them with the Rezdy online booking system. All of this allowed Kiwi Wonder Tours to update and add new tours as needed, following the same site design format PortGroup had created.Breaking The Language Barrier
With Kiwi Wonder Tours main target audience set on international tourists from multiple non-English speaking countries we had to build a solution to cater for them. Rather than relying on the standard Google Translate feature found in most browsers we opted for localised internationalisation. We achieved this by creating dedicated language files for each language Kiwi Wonder Tours targeted. While this approach took longer to develop, it kept the client happy as it ensured accurate and reliable translations.Finishing The Website Project
Once we finished the site development we moved to user testing. We made some final adjustments to CTA’s to make them more prominent, improving the UX/UI. Builtflat received amazing feedback from both Kiwi Wonder Tours and PortGroup on our contribution to this project which continues on, scaling up the website to match their growth!
If you haven’t tried a guided tour we highly recommend the Kiwi Wonder Tours experience! Personally I went on one of their first tours and even as a local I learnt ton’s.
